Where to buy a piano or keyboard in Anchorage, Alaska?

Posted by on Aug 27, 2011

If you are looking for a new instrument in Anchorage, Alaska, there currently is only one piano dealer.

Trish Allen, owns and operates the Alaska Steinway Gallery by appointment, out of a small location in Government Hill, 820 E. Loop, her contact is #677-9311.  Please call for an appointment.

She currently has Steinway, Boston, Essex, and Yamaha piano’s available($4,000+), uprights and grands, and also sells the Yamaha Clavinova digital piano ($2,000+).  Any instrument listed on these websites, she can get for you.

If you are looking for a used piano or keyboard, check craigslist. These start around $300 and up.  For beginners looking for a first time keyboard, suitable for piano lessons, I recommend purchasing one with weighted or hammer action keys.  This is very important for muscle and tone and development, as piano is a percussion/string instrument.  Most instruments will have all 88 keys, this is also nice.  In addition you will need a stand, and bench so as to maintain a proper piano position while playing and practicing. If you are looking for a first time piano, look for one that has been maintained and tuned regularly, this will mean less of a cost to you at your first piano maintenance/tuning appointment.  I recommend tuning/maintenance on an annual basis, so as to keep your piano sounding good and running properly.

If you are looking for a new keyboard, check Mammoth Music by the Diamond Mall,  they will price match, so make sure to check the online price of the keyboard you want.  Also Best Buy in the Diamond Mall, has a music section with keyboards, they will price match some items also.  Costco, in the Fall and up until Christmas, usually carriers a few models of weighted key, keyboards.

Finally if you have any questions at all about purchasing a piano or keyboard, please feel to ask me, I will do my best to help you find an instrument suitable for your musical journeys.  lauralee@lauraleemarie.com

  1. Hello,
I am looking for a digital keyboard with weighted keys and 88 keys if possible. I am trying to find one that is around $200-$300 but can’t seem to find keyboards below $499. I am a broke college student and costs matters. Do you have any suggestions for places to look?

    • The only place to find a weighted 88 key digital piano for under $500 is Craigslist. I would check there frequently as reasonably priced used digital pianos sell pretty fast. If you are a student at UAA, you will be able to practice piano, in the unlocked ARts Buldg. practice rooms for free.
