Lauralee

Lauralee was born and raised in Cordova, Alaska. A fourth generation Alaskan and daughter of a commercial fisherman, she spent her summers on boats fishing for salmon and exploring Prince William Sound and the Copper River Delta. She began studying the piano when she was 7 years of age, and since has explored all the string instruments and many musical styles with passion. Lauralee has performed with many bands, including the UAA Jazz ensemble, and currently performs traditional and original tunes with her band the Jakelegs at festivals and venues around the state. “I am passionate and enthusiastic about music and my goal as a music educator and performer is to inspire youth through music, to teach the discipline, power, sense of belonging and beauty it can bring to their lives and the communities around them.” Lauralee holds a B. A. in Music (2003) and M. Ed. in Teaching in Learning (2016) from the University of Alaska, Anchorage.
